About RoHS:

July 1st of 2006, the Europe Union (EU) implemented the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substancances (or RoHS) directive. RoHS states that such chemicals as lead, mercury, camium, or hexavalent chromium will be prohibited in any new electronic equipment produced on or after the date previously stated. Mercury used in fluorescent bulbs and lead in glass for CRTs and in solder used in servers and other network infrastructures maintain an exemption status. The RoHS directive affects all companies conducting business in Europe.

Note that as of January 2007, California has adopted restrictions that are similar to those of the EU.
